Pia Cramling is one of the most respected figures in international chess. With a career spanning more than four decades at the highest level, the Swedish grandmaster has inspired generations through her achievements, dedication, and enduring passion for the game.
A former women’s world number one, Cramling has long been a leading figure in Swedish chess. Her deep positional understanding, fighting spirit, and consistency have earned her admiration from fellow professionals and chess fans around the world.
Few players can match her longevity. At the 2022 Women’s Chess Olympiad, she won the individual gold medal on board one, an extraordinary 38 years after claiming her first gold on the same board in 1984. In 2025, she became the first Swedish player inducted into the World Chess Hall of Fame, recognising her outstanding contribution to the game.
Beyond her competitive achievements, Pia has connected with a new generation of chess fans through her appearances alongside her daughter, Anna Cramling. Her calm explanations, warmth, and humour have made her a much-loved presence among audiences discovering chess online.
We are delighted to welcome Pia Cramling back to ChessParty in Stockholm on 23–24 April 2027. Her presence brings a remarkable blend of chess history, experience, and enthusiasm to an event where players and fans of all generations come together.
