Sweden Chess Federation

Partner story
The Swedish Chess Federation (SSF) was founded in 1917 by Ludvig Collijn, then chairman of the Stockholm Chess Federation, with the aim of broadening interest in chess and improving the playing strength of Sweden’s elite players.
Today, SSF is a large membership organisation with more than 40,000 members across 2,000 clubs in 23 districts. Of these, 36,000 are aged 25 or younger, clear evidence of the game’s continuing appeal.
The federation is governed by an elected board of nine members. Its chairman since 2026 is Claes Jonson from Södra Sandby.
