Jon Ludvig Hammer

Jon Ludvig Hammer

Jon Ludvig Hammer is a Norwegian Grandmaster and one of the most recognisable voices in modern chess.

A former world top40 player, Hammer has in recent years become best known for his work as a commentator – bringing elite-level insight together with energy, humour, and a genuine passion for the game. Since 2014, he has been the face of chess on Norway’s TV 2, helping introduce the game to a broad national audience.

Beyond Norwegian television, Hammer has also reached a global audience through English-language broadcasts on Twitch, where he has provided commentary for leading creators such as Anna Cramling, Andrea Botez, and Hikaru Nakamura.

He will arrive at ChessParty directly from the Candidates Tournament, where he has been guiding Nakamura’s audience through one of the most important events in the chess calendar – potentially determining the next challenger for World Champion Gukesh Dommaraju.

At ChessParty, Jon Ludvig Hammer will take part in the 1000-player tournament and be available in Play a GM, giving visitors the chance to face him across the board.

Whether you’re looking to challenge him yourself or learn by watching, this is a rare opportunity to experience top-level chess up close – guided by one of the game’s best communicators.
