Aage Sivertsen
Aage G. Sivertsen is a Norwegian author, historian, and criminologist, best known for his best-selling books – many of them focused on World War II.
Alongside his writing, Sivertsen has been closely involved in the Norwegian chess environment. He served as leader of Kristiansund Chess Club and played a key role in developing young talents, several of whom went on to become grandmasters – including Junior World Champion Aryan Tari.
Since 2013, Sivertsen has worked closely with Henrik Carlsen, advising and following Magnus Carlsen during the early years of his world championship career. This collaboration formed the basis of the book Magnus, which explores the psychology behind elite performance and the relationship between Magnus and his father.
At ChessParty, Aage G. Sivertsen will give a lecture exploring the factors behind world-class performance – using Magnus Carlsen as a central case.
The talk will cover themes such as the role of memory in chess, comparisons between Magnus Carlsen and Mozart, the importance of intrinsic motivation, and how external factors like media and financial success can influence performance at the highest level.
Bringing together chess, psychology, and real-world experience, this is a session that offers a different perspective on what it takes to reach the very top.
